Joe Allen believes that the Swans are fast turning the Liberty Stadium into a fortress despite the weekend defeat to Man Utd

Joe Allen believes that the Swans are fast turning the Liberty Stadium into a fortress despite the weekend defeat to Man Utd

Man Utd became the first side to win at the Liberty for 15 games but not before they were given a fright by the Swans who pushed them hard in the second half for an equaliser.

Allen told the Western Mail “Some people have been shocked this season and I’m sure Man United will go away knowing they’ve been in a tough game and had to work very hard for the win.

“We can take pride from that. Teams will be fearful of travelling down to the Liberty Stadium because we do not make it easy for anyone.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t go back to our friends and families and say we picked up a point or even three against a team like Manchester United.

“But it’s an experience we will never forget and hopefully we will get the chance to do it over and over again.

“When you look at the two games, Arsenal and United, you can see it’s a fine line between success and failure,” said Wales international Allen.

“It’s why they are where they are and we have to try and get it into our game. To have lost to those types of goals shows how close we are.

“Again there are positives we can take from it, but at the same time we don’t want it to be the story of our season.

“We don’t want to lose but do it valiantly. We want to be picking up points and keep ourselves up near the top end of the table and out of trouble.

“We will learn a lot from this game. To be competing against a team like that as well as we did – things are looking bright.

“We feel we are going to grow as the season goes on.

“We’ve had some pretty tough games, we’ve got some big teams out of the way.

“It’s a shame we haven’t taken points off some of the top four teams but at the same time the position we find ourselves in the table is one we can build on.

“On Wednesday I feared the worst,” admitted Allen.

“I was disappointed not to be available from the start but glad to have been involved somehow and a shame it could not have been a better result.

“Every single player at this club will remember games like these. The professionalism of their team is incredible.

“ They certainly know how to win games and it is something we can look up to and try to emulate.

“Ryan (Giggs) made the point of coming over and speaking to me when I got on which was nice, he’s been an idol of mine for many years. To have got the chance to play against him was a pretty special feeling.”
