Billy Sharp Heads Home To Doncaster
Billy Sharp Heads Home To Doncaster

It was Two Years ago next week that Billy Sharp arrived from Doncaster to become perhaps the most crucial signing in Saints recent history.

Billy Sharp arrived from Doncaster Rovers already high in the Championship scoring charts that season now he goes back there on loan till the end of the season, another one of our heroes from the promotion seasons who are on such good salaries they cant afford to take a pay cut for a permanent move.

This does not make Billy or any of his fellow players at St mary's caught in limbo, mercenaries, merely victims of circumstance in today's modern game where often player celebrate promotion to the Premier knowing they will get little chance to play and due to promotion salary increases they need to stay at the club for financial security.

Billy Sharp played a big part in the promotion season of 2011/12, his goals in the second half of the season helped Saints over the line as they faltered and his reward was to be exiled from the club, not given a proper chance to play a part, even when his replacement Mayuka barely played nor contributed, perhaps a bad piece of transfer business that rang alarm bells for Katharina Liebherr.

This will be Billy's third spell at the Keepmoat after an initial loan spell, he signed for the club full time the following season and now again is a loanee.

Billy Sharp might be one of the forgotten men at St Mary's in terms of team selection, but for a lot of our fans who were there before the Premiership he will forever have a place in Saints historyfor without his goals, history might be a lot different.

Yes, treated unfairly (not his fault), paid well (not his fault either), played well at a critical time for us (to his credit)...I wish him every success and happiness, he deserves it.
