And the first casualty of
And the first casualty of "Don" Cellino's takeover is.....

Despite a club statement saying David Haigh will be heading up a new Leeds United board as CEO, it looks like the current Leeds Managing Director is on his way out after an explosive interview in today's Sun newspaper with Massimo Cellino.

Indeed Haigh was sickenly gushing in paying tribute to Cellino and many others. Following Cellino's successful appeal against the Football League's decision not to allow him to complete his takeover, Haigh said: “This is a significant day in the history of Leeds United. Since GFH Capital took over the club in December 2012, the stated aim has always been to introduce strategic investors to ensure a sustainable future for the club.

“I have met with many potential investors and worked closely with them, and I realised very quickly that Massimo is someone who has the attributes to take this club forward.

“He has a proven track record in Italy, and I believe the introduction of Eleonora Sport, coupled with Massimo’s drive and determination, will be key to a successful and sustainable future for this great football club.

“I’d like to thank the Football League, GFH Capital, and of course, Massimo and Eleonora Sport for all their hard work over the past few weeks in ensuring that this deal was able to progress.”

However Haigh's words have fallen on deaf ears as far as his new boss is concerned, Cellino told the Sun "You are fired. David has to go. I have had too much of him."

Really Haigh's position has become untenable following some bizarre events over the last week or so. Following a taped conversation with former-chairman Ken Bates on a pirate radio station, it emerged that Haigh had snubbed a dinner-date with Bates last Saturday. Bates also claimed he had offered to invest in the consortium which Haigh had fronted with Andrew Flowers, which was rejected by GFH capital - who up until recently were also Haigh's employers!

In another clandestine pirate radio conversation with Cellino last weekend, the Italian referred to Haigh as "the son of the devil". During our midweek defeat to Charlton last week, sections of the crowd chanted abuse at Haigh who was sat in the Directors Box in the East Stand.

So it looks like Haigh's time is up, he always struck me as a bit of a front, a suit with a permanent-smile although to be fair he did lead many of the iniatives to re-engage the club with its fans following the PR disaster which was Bates's reign.

However like his colleagues in Bahrain, commercially he was out of his depth. The club are now losing £1m a month and were flirting with administration all on his watch as MD.

Maybe he will have the time now to devote to his budding career as a Conservative politician.

Meanwhile Brian McDermott's future looks bleak with Cellino pondering why the Leeds boss, who may not see the 1st anniversary of his reign next Saturday, hasn't done the decent thing and resigned in the face of seven defeats in eight games.

Leeds new owner told the Sun. "I have to get to work and fast.

"I want to call Brian now I have the chance to talk to him properly and find out what has been going on.

""The squad needs work, yes, but seven defeats in eight games - It is unbelievable.

"To be honest I have been asking myself, 'why doesn`t he resign?` because Brian is a proud man and results have not been good enough."
