Andy Awford can see his Pompey squad getting stronger by the game after they brushed aside Bognor 6-1 at Nyewood Lane.

Goals by Ryan Taylor, Miles Storey, Danny Hollands, Jack Maloney, Andy Barcham and Jed Wallace rocked the Rocks, who had only an Alex Parsons goal to show for their efforts on a hot afternoon.

It followed the previous weekend's 4-0 win at Havant.

Awford was delighted with the workout and told the club website: 'It was a really good work-out for our lads against a Bognor side who like to knock the ball around. It gets a few more miles in their legs in humid conditions, so it was a useful exercise for us.

'There might have been a few more goals, but I’m not really fussed about the results at this moment in time. It’s all about fitness and trying to avoid picking up injuries as much as we possibly can.

'The attitude of the players is superb — you can see that they’re getting fitter and stronger. We continue to work them hard, but they do everything that we ask of them.'

Pompey now head for a short training break in Essex which will include games against Thurrock and Ebbsfleet.
