Another sloppy goal - another poor return for Pompey
Another sloppy goal - another poor return for Pompey

Andy Awford lamented another 'sloppy' goal as Pompey failed to learn from the mistakes of the Cheltenham draw when losing to AFC Wimbledon.

A messy early goal was enough to give the hosts a double over the Blues and leave Awford looking back on a haul of one point from two games - extremely disappointing after the spirit-lifting win over Luton.

The boss told the Pompey website: 'It was a game that we felt we could take points from, so we’re disappointed with the result. We conceded two sloppy goals the other night and we’ve let another sloppy one in. It’s one we should have prevented.

'That gave them something to hold on to, while if it had been 0-0 they would have had to come out a bit more. The first half was very open, but Paul Jones didn’t have too much to do and neither did their keeper. I told the players after the game that we have to better in that sense.

'In terms of the amount of possession that we had, we’re disappointed with the number of chances that we’ve created. We made a lot of changes in the second half to get attack-minded players out onto the pitch, but it just wasn’t to be.

'I’m not sure that we deserved to lose the game, but we didn’t deserve to win it either.'

Awford gave debuts to Nyron Nosworthy and Cole Kpekawa in defence and the duo seem likely to make their home debuts when Shrewsbury visit Fratton next Saturday.
