Refwatch Preview: Dale v Port Vale
Monday, 6th Apr 2015 08:00 by TVOS

One of our most frequent referees in recent years has been appointed to the Easter Monday home fixture against Port Vale.

Andy Haines is now in his eighth season as a Football League referee and on Monday will take charge at Spotland for the 20th time, a figure that is most likely a record for Dale’s home ground.

We haven’t seen him in league action since early last season when he refereed the exciting 2-2 draw with Chesterfield, but Andy has visited us in the meantime for the pre-season friendly against Wigan.

Remarkably, that Chesterfield game was the third time Mr Haines has refereed that particular fixture at Spotland, while in January 2008 he was in charge at Saltergate when David Perkins scored his fine hat-trick in Dale’s exciting 4-3 defeat of The Spireites.

With a link to Monday, the Tyne & Wear official was in the middle for our last home win over Port Vale in April 2009, while 12 months later he was the referee on the day Dale clinched promotion from League Two with a 1-0 victory over Northampton.

The full list of Mr Haines’ Dale matches is:

Sep 07 Macclesfield (h), D 1-1
