Saints At Manchester United The Preview
Friday, 22nd Jan 2016 08:00

Can Saints win at Manchester United for the second season in a row, we look at a few reasons why that could be possible.

Saints travel to Manchester United with confidence and perhaps the best chance of winning at Old Trafford than any other visit including last season's great win.

Ronald Koeman though will have to do some hard thinking, not only because he has new signing Charlie Austin available for the trip, but whether he makes changes to a winning side.

This time last season Ronald Koeman didn't have much room for manouevre when it came to picking his starting XI, he only had limited choices to tweaking his usual starting line up due to injury both short and long term.

Things are starting to change as as the Dutch manager showed when he changed a winning team last weekend after the Watford game, he is not afraid to tweak the side to suit the opposition.

Perhaps the biggest headache for Koeman, if you can call it that, is what to do in the centre of midfield, James Ward Prowse had a great game against West Brom, but this is Manchester United and Koeman has to decide whether to err on the side of caution and restore Oriol Romeu or Jordy Clasie to the side, or take the game to United and keep JWP in the side.

Also Koeman has to consider whether to restore Pelle to the starting line up or even give a debut to Charlie Austin, if he decides on either then he could revamp the tactical lay out completely.

Whatever Koeman decides he will still have plenty of option on the bench and that could be just as important to achieving a result than anything.

But Saints go to Old Trafford with confidence knowing that if they can get a grip early doors and silence the crowd, then that silence will soon turn to discontent and with the crowd on their backs it wont be easy for United.

Key as always will be taking the chances when they come and keeping it error free at the back with total concentration throughout the game.

I think I'd 'stick' to start with now we're 'in the groove'. If necessary we should have 'game changers' on the bench as well. My lucky 76 scarf predicts a high scoring win!
