Is Mel's Mind Made Up To Appoint Another Nigel At DCFC?
Friday, 27th May 2016 07:54 by Daniel J Sewart

Could it be that the desire of a seeming majority of Rams fans to see Nigel Pearson installed as DCFC’s new gaffer, has triggered a swifter move to secure a new number one at the club?

Most recent reports had Mel Morris and his decision making team taking their time as they considered and assessed the front runners for the role. With many pundits claiming that the decision would not be rushed but made before the players returned from their off-season break.

But if reports made by the Derbyshire Telegraph yesterday are true, it seems Pearson has jumped to the front of the queue - not just with the bookmakers but also in the eyes of those in charge at the iPro.

The Telegraph reported late yesterday that “The Rams are understood to have held talks with the former Leicester City manager - and could be ready to make an appointment next week.”

If correct, this is a massive shift after Sherwood, Martinez, Rowett & Wassall’s names were bandied about as front runners in recent weeks and while it seemed Pearson was always in the mix, he now has rocketed to the top of the charts with a bullet.

Perhaps Mel Morris, if he wasn’t already looking directly in Pearson’s direction, was sparked into action by the feedback from thousands of Rams fans in an online poll and the undeniable support the former Foxes number one has had on social and in the local media.

Those in charge at Derby will be desperate to right the wrongs of the past few seasons, knowing they have to appease many unhappy at the handling of the top job after Paul Clement was dumped. They will also want to get the fans back into a positive frame of mind as things began to fracture and splinter once again after such an encouraging start.

The other factor would be ensuring the investment Mel has made shows some kind of return and Pearson is a solid, proven man motivator who may just be the catalyst required for the squad to find the consistency required.

It seems with his odds being slashed to 1/4 — someone knows something for him to have leapt over his competition so comprehensively in the betting.

I for one would welcome the appointment as he is a proven performer at this level and what he did at Leicester was more than impressive.

Yes he may have been abrasive with the press and eventually fell out with the owners but the fact he got the Foxes promoted as Champions with 102 points accrued (31 wins, 9 draws, 6 losses). He broke eggs to make omelettes much like our favourite manager did once upon a time….

The players that arrived under Pearson’s regime also now read like a ‘who’s hot’ list in a football magazine. When you consider that he signed the likes of Vardy, Ulloa, Mahrez and Morgan it is undeniable that his fingerprints are all over the title that Leicester won this year.

Yes he did not provide the masterplan but he laid the foundations as well as most of the bricks for what this season became for the Foxes.

I think Derby need a manager that will grab this talented mob by the scruff and turn into a harder football team who don’t dare sulk or disappear in matches. You don’t not perform for someone like Pearson as he demands it.

From a players point of view it has always been said his players love him and they would run through burning buildings if he asked them too. If he could bring that mentality to the Rams squad it is a mouth-watering prospect.

You just feel like this squad just needs a finishing touch and that finishing touch could be the human hammer that is Nigel Pearson.

Get it done Derby!!
