It has been revealed that Saints have worst ratio of goals scored against shots taken in the entire Premier league.

This statistic will perhaps not come as a surprise for Saints fans, but the team has the worst ratio of goals scored against shots taken, the stats which do not take into account penalties reveal that Saints have had 25 shots on target and 31 off target in a total of 56 efforts in total.

That is an impressive total being bettered only by Manchester City with 65 and Everton withone more than us on 57, but the worrying stat is that we have only converted 4 of them into goals, 7.1% being the percentage rate.

The Premier League average is over double that with 15.3% with surprisingly Arsenal & Watford topping the table with 24% & 23.8% respectively.

So this is a stat that Saints need to change, as can be worked out creating chances is not the problem, getting into scoring positions is not the problem, burying the ball in the back of the net is.

The good news is that with Charlie Austin hitting form and three straight wins under our belts, surely we now have the confidence to step up a gear and re address the balance.

saintstuinoz added 14:32 - Sep 23 I'm pretty sure that's nearly all Shane Long... I love his effort and he is really important to the team, but please can one of the Coaches keep him back for shooting practice? If he started to put 25% of his chances away he'd be a 30 goal a season player.

ExiledSupporter added 15:39 - Sep 23 No surprise here at all, the statistic reflects how bad the shooting of all the squad is, but the forwards and midfield have to bear most responsibility. I cited our relatively poor record last season (and now without two of the more reliable goal scorers) as one of the reasons that we should have bought an additional striker; the bother reason was, of course, that our two main strikers were prone to recurrent bouts of injury...and lo and behold (now its JR again)! Many other supporters thought this too; but for reasons which I think were specious you, Nick, have wanted to deny the *******obvious.

Bettwsresident added 18:14 - Sep 23 We had a similar period in Feb/Mar 2015 when we scored 2 from 100 shots over 6 games and in Nov/Dec 15 when we scored 3 from 99 shots! A lot worse than this year and we had Pelle and Mane. Saints strikers seems to go through these periods every season. In both cases we turned it around and had great seasons.

Redrum added 19:25 - Sep 24 What a shock!It's frustrating that professionals can't a target that big.If it's a weakness in your game than come on work hard on training and get it right!!!
