Good luck at Mansfield Steve Evans! (and so say all of us!)
Wednesday, 16th Nov 2016 17:16 by @markmonk

Former White's boss back in management at struggling Stags.

Steve Evans has finally returned to football management six months after parting company with Leeds United.

The 54-year-old Glasweigen has taken over at Mansfield Town who lie 18th in League Two.

His trusted sidekick Paul Raynor has joined him as his Assistant Manager as he did do at Leeds.

Evans was a shock-appointment at Elland Road after Uwe Roslers brand of heavy metal football flopped. Leeds languished in 18th when he took over but he managed to steady the ship and guide us up to 13th without seriously troubling the promotion race.

Evans, who once publicly vowed never to work for Massimo Cellino prior to taking the job won over the fans with his outspoken honesty at his situation and his desire to earn an extension to his contract. Even if at times the football was shocking, like the 4-0 defeat at Brighton in January, many included myself thought that Evans deserved a chance to manage Leeds again this season.

However at the time, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that anyone else, particularly someone with the ambition and calibre of Gary Monk would have wanted to work under Cellino so sticking with Evans was the best option.

With 9 promotions under his belt in the lower leagues I'm sure there will be happier times ahead for the Stags and the fans will appreciate his "heart on his sleeve" honesty. We wish him all the best and ironically he faces another of his old clubs Crawley at the One Call stadium on Saturday.
