Refwatch: Dale v Gillingham
Friday, 22nd Sep 2017 20:40 by TVOS

Experienced EFL referee Eddie Ilderton is the man in the middle when Dale entertain Gillingham on Saturday.

Mr Ilderton is in 16th season as a league referee and this will be his 23rd appointment at a Rochdale match.

That long list started at Spotland on the opening day of the 2002/03 campaign when Eddie refereed his first Football League game as Dale recorded a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient.

Just four months earlier he was one of the assistant referees when we lost at home to Rushden & Diamonds in the play-offs.

We last saw Mr Ilderton in December when he refereed the exciting 3-2 win at Northampton, where Matty Lund scored a perfect hat-trick for Dale.

His most recent appointment at Spotland was in February 2016 when Dale drew 2-2 with Crewe after leading 2-0 early in the game.

Eddie also took charge of the 1-1 home draw with Saturday’s opponents, Gillingham, in October 2014.
