Thread of the Week - Them's Fighting Words
Thread of the Week - Them's Fighting Words
Wednesday, 14th Nov 2007 21:53

I've chosen this week the thread which developed under Daniel J Sewart's posting of his weekly Derby Down Under column.

I did this because it developed into an interesting discussion but most of all because in the middle of the discussion, Luckyeddie posted up some new songs to be sung at Pride Park which were extremely funny - and clever!

Here's my favourite:

"My Old Man said "Follow The Rams,
Don't forget your Starbucks on the way.
Meet in the Plaza in half a minute -
quails eggs in aspic for starters innit?"
But I dillied and dallied, dallied and dillied,
the Chef had to knock up another batch.
But it has to be recorded
that my lateness was rewarded -
I was too late for the match."

There has been some excellent discussion on RamZone's Message Board this week showing that the site is now developing into where the 'thinking fans' post.

Most fans were pretty shocked at the manner of the defeat against West Ham and the general opinion is that Billy Davis is not the man to lead a Premiership club. It seems to be generally agreed that he was/is a good *Championship* manager but hasn't made the step up.

Where there is disagreement is largely over whether he signed poor quality players or whether they were the only players he was actually able to get due to either a refusal of the board to pay up more money or refusal of the player/s to come to a club they felt was certain to be relegated. Maybe we will never find out the whole truth on that one.

There have been plenty of discussions about what is the best side and formation and about who should or shouldn't play. Fans are not going to agree on that one but it makes for some interesting threads.

Other subjects discussed include the charging of 3 (at the time of writing) men with 'financial irregularities' relating to the takeover if DCFC in October 2003 who have been named by the media as former Finance Director Andrew Mackenzie, former Chief Executive Jeremy Keith and former 'Director of Football' Murdo Mackay.

There have also been threads on Giles Barnes, Adam Pearson going to America, the pros and cons of a possible American investment and the departure of long serving club mascot Rammie aka Dean Mottram.

Thanks to all contributors on the messageboard this week and thanks to Dan J for his column which stimulated the discussion. It is good to see that RamZone is starting to 'buzz' again and is a 'troll-free zone' with some excellent discussion.
