David once again slew Goliath however even if it was on penalties following Ade Akinbiyi's equalizer. Manager Owen Coyle was ecstatic however he cautioned the players about letting it go to their heads; "There is no doubt this is a superb win and it was especially pleasing that we showed we can play positive football against a top side, but I'm quite calm. We must now focus on a massive league game on Saturday."

The win over Chelsea was rewarded with a quarter final home tie against Arsenal. A visit to Turf Moor is something that Arsene Wenger's young team won't relish.

The Clarets did keep their eye on the ball after the cup game with a win over QPR however since then they played out a scoreless draw with Doncaster and lost 3-2 away at Barnsley.

The Barnsley game was televised and the Clarets contrived to concede 3 goals in the game despite being clearly on top for most of the game. Indeed once the team calmed down and applied themselves, they scored twice and might have equalised but for some fine saves by the Barnsley keeper.

Owen Coyle felt the second Barnsley goal was offside; "The replays show he was two yards in advance of our back line and it hit Kayode Odejayi's arm as he put it in and you can't say he's not interfering with play. It's just a bad decision. At the time, I asked the fourth official to ask the linesman who was playing him on. And the answer I got was that his view was obscured by Burnley players but there were no Burnley players in sight of that line. It's a hard one to take because we certainly merited a result out of that game."

Barnsley manager Simon Davey concurred with that view when he said; "There was only one team who were going to get back in it and that was Burnley and a lot of credit has to go to them."

This quote suggests Jewell wasn't happy without defending - and he's right not to be. What was Tito Villa doing back in his own penalty area to give away a penalty and what was Jordan Stewart thinking when he underhit that pass to Carroll?

Jewell has now bought in centre-half James Tomkins from West Ham as cover for injured Dean Leacock and Martin Albrechtson, and Luke Varney - the pacey former Crewe striker from Charlton.

Will Tomkins start at Turf Moor? If so who will he replace? Darren Powell improved as the game wore on against Preston although for some bizarre reason, his heading was as wayward as Claude's. For me Lewin Nyatanga has played very well this season and does not deserve to be dropped however judging from some of the comments on the match reports from fans sitting behind the dug-out, Jewell gets very annoyed with Lewin when he attempts to play the ball out of defence. I suspect he may make way for Tomkins.

Up front we have the problem of who to partner Rob Hulse. Neither Tito or the Duke are profiting from playing alongside Hulse. Tito's workrate is excellent but his positioning to receive the ball from Hulse is poor. Similar with Ellington who spends far to much time out wide. Neither is scoring enough goals - I think Varney will start against the Clarets.

Burnley are clear favourites at 10/11 while the Rams are at 5/2. The draw is at 11/5. Both Martin Paterson and Steve Thompson are at the very short odds of 2/1 to score for the clarets while Emanuel Villa and Rob Hulse are at 11/4 for the Rams. Driving: it's about 120 miles to Burnley. Take the A50 towards Stoke and join the M6 north. At J21 take the Manchester bound M62 and join the Manchester Orbital M60 at J12. Take the M66 north at J18 until you join the M65 at J8 towards Burnley. Leave the Motorway at J10 and follow the signs for Townley Hall. This passes the ground eventually.

Parking: There's on street parking to be had if you arrive early enough. The Cricket ground near Turf Moor charges £3 to park there. You can also park at the fire station.

Drinking: They have a downer on colours in the bars of Burnley but if you keep them covered and don't act conspicuous you will be okay. Footballgroundguide.com recommend the Talbot pub, The Queen Victoria and The Woodman Inn on Todmorden Road.

If you park at the cricket club there's no need to go looking for a pub as they serve ale in there and are very friendly.

Mick's prediction

We can score goals and Burnley can concede them. We've not played well other than against Sheffield Wednesday for a while now. We have another tough game on Tuesday but then so do the Clarets. I reckon this will be a draw.
