Second-year referee Peter Quinn will travel down from Cleveland on Saturday to take charge of our home fixture with Plymouth.

Just over 12 months ago, Mr Quinn oversaw another home game against Devon opponents when he was in the middle for Dale’s 2-1 defeat of Torquay.

That game passed without incident, but the same couldn’t be said about the next time we saw him at Chesterfield in April.

On that afternoon the official awarded the home side two penalties, which were both converted by Barry Conlon, to help them to a 2-0 win that started Dale’s late season wobble that effectively cost them the League Two title.

So far this season Peter has only refereed three games, with a late fitness test keeping him out of action until late August.

Those matches seem to have passed without incident which will hopefully be the case on Saturday.
