Sorry, Kensal - my first post was really poorly worded.

"Personally I don't subscribe to the slow burn approach. The Championship is fiercely competitive and I don't believe we can afford to start the season slowly and let other clubs get away from us."

Agreed.

I'm talking about the 23-24 season, Kensal. Under Ainsworth. Williams was appointed in July 03.

That season, we lacked fitness - stamina, strength and pace - for the first half of the season.

Last season, we had a similar slow start in terms of fitness.

This season, we've lacked fitness all the way through.

I take your point about Beale and I agree about his treatment of Willock completely, but Beale was gone by Nov 22.

It's the third year we've had fitness problems.

The previous year we were stuck to the ground for the first half of the season.

Other factors:

Eze money - how much of it has gone?

Amortisation - have we mortgaged the club?

P&S - Is Hoos watching this?

Trustworthiness - I don't trust him.

Ya, maybe I am being a bit harsh. I certainly seem to be in the minority on this one.

Obviously, I've wished him well, and I meant it.

I liked his effort, but he had huge fitness issues and didn't score many goals. And he just wasn't a very good footballer.

Not sure he was a free signing either.

Seems a decent sort, best of luck to him.

Very poor signing, though.

On balance, I think this is correct, Ned.

"Stéphan had to trust Mbengue not to get a second yellow card as he has had to do on nine or ten other occasions this season". Good point.

Also, the only other options were to bring Edwards on at RB, or to bring Edwards on at CB, disrupt the CB partnership and move Dunne off Moore and over to RB.
As a manager, I'm not sure, I'd fancy either of those options any more than leaving Mbengue on a yellow for the 10th time.

For context, prior to his sending-off, Mbengue had committed one foul.
