And none of the others except the onform Rodney have the goalscoring ability of say, Lund, Keohane or Sinclair.

Trouble is IMO, I don`t think Jim worries about goalscorers in the same way he worries about left backs or wingbacks.

We must be watching different squads.

We have 28 players at present incl 2 keepers.
There are 10 defenders and 11 midfielders on call (incl wingbacks)

We have 5 strikers.

Smith is out for some time.
Mani D is just back from long-term injury with half a game under his belt. He is 31.
Duku-looks to be OK as a backup. He is 33.
Rodney- needs to be "managed" apparently. Unbeatable on his day.
Hendo- what is there still to say? He is 41.

There is a wealth of experience there, but surely there is a huge risk in the department that is there to score goals.

The "separate argument" you mention being the inability to convert chances, backed up by the very poor goal contribution from midfield in the last 2 seasons.

I find it disappointing that voices are appearing that say we will not match York when we are only halfway through the season. We cannot match their goalscoring or probably their goal difference, but we have every chance of matching their points. We may never get another chance like this.

In 70 years of supporting the Dale, we have never won anything- a title. This is the best chance I have experienced.

We are one striker short of a good squad. How many of the younger squad members will be with us next season I wonder?

Apologies to Devante.

But the need is still there.

Since the York league defeat we have been amazingly lucky to have 9 games against "lesser" opponents. Positions 18th/13th/15th/17th/23rd/9th/24th/10th/22nd. I cant remember a run like that. We all know what is coming up the next few weeks.

Great to see Mani D back and Hendo firing, But we`ve now lost Tyler Smith with a hamstring for several weeks. Surely we must get a striker in urgently-what we have needed all season. We will need Mani D, Duku,Hendo and more if we are to score the necessary goals and stop missing so many opportunities.

This season is the big one.

That`s a very cryptic reply. Do you know anything or just being mysterious?

It will be very interesting to see what attack Jim puts out tonight.

Has anyone heard about Mani De`s injury.? Jim is making no reference to it in interview. Also Mani Du asked to be taken off on Saturday after taking a knock. All the more surprising that Tyler Smith remained on the bench throughout. Only 1-0 at that time thanks to Amantchi`s 2 dreadful misses.

Now there`s an idea. He would frighten York to death. Trouble is he`s now on top of the league.

Nice to know that Jim can race out and get 3 useful-looking new defenders at the drop of a hat like this.

Pity he can`t do the same with the attack, I wish Manni Duku all the success in the world but he was not quite what I was hoping for.

We play the bottom 2 teams starting tomorrow (with Solihull between)so this is a great chance to improve the goal difference which is already good and may be vital at season end.

Not the time for classic McNulty-ball i would suggest, especially with Southend and the February games looming. But does Jim think like that I wonder?

Now we have signed yet another defender and rumoured to be chasing Perry as well, is there anything in what Jim has said that suggests he is going in for any attackers?

Surely he can see the glaring weakness in the squad. No?

TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Hartlepool United
at 10:55 31 Dec 2025

Surely the most depressing thing was that it took 58 minutes to register a shot-not on goal but just a shot.

We must have that extra striker now, as we have needed all season.

Also Mani will be 31 in 6 weeks time. We need some new blood if this is to be a serious attempt at the top spot.

Sorry to be bah humbug, but

Keepers 3 Tick
Defence 10 tick
Midfield 10 tick
Attack 6 -Not enough

Of the 6, Rodney and Smith are coming back from injuries, Amantchi goes in a fortnight, Allarrakhia is away, Mani is out for a month and Hendo is a fantastic 40 year-old.

The Rodney situation is , as always, unclear in terms of absences.

Agree some young hopeful is very risky.

Do we really want to build on the superb start to the season?

We need to match York and Carlisle in terms of ambition if not in finance. A squad of 29 is high but it is still unbalanced ,as it was at the start of the season.

Excellent performance.

Still think we need somebody upfront to supplement Mani and Rodney. Our one striker to start yesterday was Hendo, who looked a trifle overweight to me, and is he really a striker or a superstar number 10? Ditto Tyler Smith.

The back 3 and the keeper were brilliant. The captain was immense. Alty had 9 corners without scoring! How things have changed.

That means he will miss Morecambe, Hartlepool and probably Brackley by my reckoning.

Strikers problem remains. Pray that Mani stays fit.

At present we have 2 keepers, 8 defenders, 9 midfield and wide players, and 2 attackers who are fit and available.

The 2 attackers are Mani and Hendo, who has started one league game this season (Brackley). Amantchi goes back in 3 weeks.

Big problem.
