Priskin Fine Despite Ankle Knock

Striker Tamás Priskin is expected to be fine for Saturday’s home game against Doncaster, despite suffering an ankle injury at Millwall last week. The Hungarian international was back in training yesterday.

Manager Paul Jewell says he had no other new injury problems after the visit to the Den: “Just Tamás’s twisted sock. He’s trained this morning for the first time this week and he’s done OK.

“To be fair to him he had a nasty knock on the ankle, it was swollen quite badly at half-time against Millwall. He did well to get through the game.”

Jewell says Priskin should be buoyant despite missing the opportunity to put the Blues two goals up against the Lions: “He’s got two goals in two games. Every striker misses opportunities and there’s no striker in the world that scores more than he misses.

“I don’t think Tamás will be affected, he’s a confident lad, he’s got two goals in two games, so he should be full of confidence looking forward to each and every game.”

The new boss has other players returning to fitness with Troy Brown (tight hamstrings) and Shane O’Connor (ruptured shoulder) coming through the midweek reserves victory over Fulham. Jewell says O’Connor is raring to go: “Shane O’Connor has trained all week. He’s feisty and he’s fit.”

Loan midfielder Jake Livermore is back at Spurs and is likely to need a hernia operation. His loan deal up on January 25th and, unless he returns later in the season, his time at Town appears to be over.

Jewell said: “I’ve seen the physio’s report from Tottenham and they’re going to try rehab, but he might well need surgery. If he does need surgery, then that’s going to be six to eight weeks I would have thought.”

Only keeper Brian Murphy (broken ankle) and midfielder Alan Quinn (groin) remain unavailable for selection.
