Scotland: Win Has Worked Wonders
Scotland: Win Has Worked Wonders

Striker Jason Scotland has revealed how Town’s storming second-half recovery at Barnsley last week instantly worked wonders for dressing room harmony.

He first noticed it on the bus journey home from Yorkshire and said the upbeat mood, not surprisingly, had also contributed to a more positive atmosphere on the training ground in the build-up to tomorrow’s home clash with Derby County.

Although keen to play down his own performance against the Tykes, Scotland, 32, was among the goalscorers at Oakwell as Paul Jewell’s men, who trailed 2-0 at the interval, netted five times and eventually ended a run of seven league defeats on the spin with a stunning 5-3 victory.

The Trinidad & Tobago star said: “When you are winning games it can have a big effect and the trip home on the bus was so much different to previous away games when we lost.

“It was happy and bubbly but when you have lost you will have some players swearing at others and generally people are not happy with each other. We don’t take defeats well and when it was seven in a row it made it all the worse to take.

“Players will point out mistakes that others might have made. I’m only using Carlos [Edwards] as an example but people would say ‘You were supposed to be marking their guy who scored with a header’ and stuff like that.

“There has been a more positive feeling this week in training and we hope to start up against Derby where we left off against Barnsley. We did not play well in the first half but if we can repeat the way we played in the second everyone will be very happy.”
