Wright on Trial With MLS Side Dallas FC
Wright on Trial With MLS Side Dallas FC

Town keeper Richard Wright flew to the US today ahead of a trial with MLS side Dallas FC this week. However, after Alex McCarthy was sent off at Leeds today, the Blues look certain to make sure the 34-year-old is back in Suffolk well ahead of the home game against his old club West Ham a week on Tuesday, with Arran Lee-Barrett currently the club’s only available senior keeper.

Wright signed a short-term contract to the end of the season in November just before the loan deadline, having trained with his old club since the summer after his release by Sheffield United.

The former England man came in as cover for David Stockdale, then on loan from Fulham, who had picked up a shoulder injury, Wright playing the only game of his third spell with the Blues in the home defeat to Reading.

Once at Arsenal and Everton, local boy Wright is believed to be keen to move to play first team football and we understand his Blues contract includes a clause allowing his release if he is offered the chance to play more regularly elsewhere. Town seem likely to look for another keeper as back-up if Wright wins a deal at Dallas.

However, as things stand, with youngster Cody Cropper still out with a knee injury and McCarthy set to be suspended for one match after his dismissal today, Wright will be required for bench duty against the Hammers.
