Ward Expected to Be Next Out of Pompey

Portsmouth administrator Trevor Birch says he expects Blues target Joel Ward to be the next player to exit Fratton Park. Last night, Leeds were reported to be winning the race for the versatile 22-year-old defender or midfielder.

Birch said: "Someone like Joel Ward will, I think, be the next one to go. There are two or three Championship clubs interested in him.

"Things aren’t going that quickly, though, and it becomes a bit difficult. There are two or three other players also being looked at by clubs so the interest is there, without a question.

"People like Erik Huseklepp, Greg Halford, Luke Varney, David Norris, there are a few of them who could be sold and we are looking to go down that route. With others, we are waiting to see if they are going to attract interest.”

Birch is frustrated that it’s taking a while to get deals done as he looks to halve Pompey’s £10.5 million wage bill ahead of their 2012/13 League One campaign: "The problem is these sort of things can take longer than you think and time is not what we have.”

Meanwhile, the Blues have been given the Football League Family Excellence Award for the fifth year running.

Leeds crush Norwich to cruise through to play-off final
With our recent form being what it was, I was expecting a nervy encounter, with Leeds struggling to get through the Norwich City defence, but how wrong I was! Suddenly we recovered the swagger we have shown for much of the season, and not a moment too soon.
Farke happy with the result after bore draw at Norwich
Many neutrals have complained on social media that yesterday’s game at Norwich City was a bit on the dull side, but the Leeds team wasn't set up to please them. For us it was the result that mattered, and it should leave us in a better position to get through to the final.
Norwich Awaydaze
For the second time this season we are visiting Norwich City, this time for the play-off game at high noon on Sunday, and the kick-off time is of course thanks to our good friends at Sky Sports. You’ll find Carrow Road is about a mile to the south-east of the city centre.

If we were ever going to have a final day miracle we needed a much better performance than this final day showing against Southampton, so now we have to endure the agony of the play-offs yet again.
