Bates blames the lawyers as protests are back in fashion

Ken Bates tantalised the long-suffering Leeds supporters with the revelation that the takeover was still alive but in the hands of the lawyers, meanwhile the "Bates Out" movement seem to be regathering momentum.

Bates fired a broadside in his programme notes at LUST, the Leeds United Supporters Trust who he claimed were wide off the mark re the status of the takeover timescale completion. According to our esteemed owner, the matter is very much a case of "slow progress" and in the hands of the respective lawyers.

Bates also revealed that he had been in discussions with another Middle East based consortium since February, who in his words "went bananas" when Leeds granted an exclusivity period to another consortium back in June and threatened to report him and Shaun Harvey to the Football League and erm LUST.

There was planned demo at Billy's Statue at 19:00 but I arrived too late to report if anything happened. Inside the ground, I estimate that around 50 fans had arranged to sit together in the South Stand and throughout the game they occasionally brandished "Bates Out" placards and other banners accusing the Monaco-based ex Chelsea chairman of lieing and urging him to sell-up.

From my seat in the East Stand, I am pretty certain I spotted Bates taking his seat in the "Leeds United Affinity Partners" section. It would make sense for him to be here given that Leeds have three games at home inside a week and his tax domicile status.

Interestingly one caller to the post-match Yorkshire Radio "Moan In" accused the fans of being more interested in singing "Anti Bates" songs than pro-Leeds ones. I would disagree as I feel it was avert subdued atmosphere and you could almost sense the apathy in the cool September air.

Annual accounts show that the club will have to sell players if we don't go up
The club released the annual accounts for the 2022/3 season this week, and despite the headline figure of an overall loss of £33.7 million, we’re not in danger of any points deduction for now. But the accumulated losses mean that player sales will be inevitable in the summer if we remain in the Championship.
