Swans £11,000 Fine

Idiots Cost Swansea City £11,000 Fine

Idiots Cost The Club Money

Trouble flared at a couple of home games towards the end of last season when objects were thrown on the pitch and also at opposition fans. I appreciate the tension that fans were under at this stage of the season but there simply is no excuse for this kind of behaviour.

Vice-chairman Leigh Dineen agrees "'Once again a minority of fans have put the club in this position. They must realise that their actions gives us financial implications we can obviously do without. 'Provocation from opposition fans or personnel is no excuse and it should and must not happen." he told the South Wales Evening Post

The trouble sparked notices all around the Vetch urging fans to think as their actions could relegate the club under fears that there may be points deductions for the trouble inside the ground.

Dineen continues ''We are doing our best to stamp this out. The club is now becoming much more community based. With £4,000 of this fine suspended we must not allow this to happen again next season. 'The fines do not just hit the club they hit the community too. 'More than £50,000 has been spent to improve security to try to ensure this sort of thing does not happen again. 'But we must stress the importance of good fan behaviour in the future.''

Quite simply the club can do without fans that decide that throwing an object onto the pitch is big or clever. For most of it comes from kids who are egged on by their mates and generally stand in groups to try and be avoided. However, at JackArmy.net we urge anyone who sees this kind of behaviour inside the Vetch to report this to the nearest steward. And that is not just because of the suspended fine but because it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured from an activity like this. And also think that throwing an object from forty yards is not always going to hit it's intended target - could just as easily be one of our players that gets injured.

Tensions were high all around the end of last season and we all felt it. Sadly though, whilst most of us could take the tension as best we could others could not and this is the result. £7,000 out of the club coffers and into the fine box. As the club moves forward it still has problems and it is good to hear that we have spent so much to try and alleviate these problems. Let's just hope that we keep them away from the Vetch in future - both objects and individuals running on the pitch. Quite simple we just don't need it.

Last night I wrote that the club couldn't do without some fans - can I change this now and say that some we can do without?

The club released the annual accounts for the 2022/3 season this week, and despite the headline figure of an overall loss of £33.7 million, we’re not in danger of any points deduction for now. But the accumulated losses mean that player sales will be inevitable in the summer if we remain in the Championship.
