MacDonald Called Up By Wales Under-21

Shaun MacDonald is included in the Welsh Under 21 squad to face Romania

MacDonald is handed the chance to help Wales secure the one point needed to advance them to the play off stages of the Euro qualifying after an excellent campaign that currently sees them sitting top of Group 10 with two matches to go.

As he promised John Toshack has also allowed several members of the full squad to be included and these include Wayne Hennessey, Gareth Bale, Jack Collison, Aaron Ramsey and Ched Evans.

Fellow Swan Joe Allen will miss out through suspension and the game takes place at the Racecourse Ground on Wednesday 20 August with a 6pm kick off - the same night as the full squad entertain Georgia at the Liberty Stadium.

Under 21 manager Brian Flynn said "This really is the big one and we need all the support from the Welsh fans possible at the Racecourse on the night

"We know what we have to do. I, and other members of my staff, have all seen Romania play and we certainly do not underestimate them. However, we have done so much hard work over the last year that we really must look to win the group at home and book our place in the October play-offs.

"We have selected a large squad so that I have the flexibility to look at certain positions now over the next couple of weeks. When we get closer to the game, some of the players will be released and that could involve some of the senior players then reverting to John Toshack's squad for the friendly with Georgia.

"John and I have spoken at length regarding the games and he is happy for me to have whoever I think I need for the Romania match. It would be such a huge boost for Welsh Football for us to take that next step towards qualifying for a major finals.

"We are close to winning this group through the sheer hard work and application of a great bunch of youngsters. It has been a pleasure for myself, David Williams, Alan Curtis and Mark Morris to work with them."

The squad: Wayne Hennessey (Wolves), Rhys Taylor (Chelsea), Owain Fon Williams (Stockport), Gareth Bale (Tottenham), Neal Eardley (Oldham), Chris Gunter (Tottenham), Grant Basey (Charlton), Darcy Blake (Cardiff), Joe Jacobson (Bristol Rovers), Lewin Nyatanga (Derby), Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City), Rhoys Wiggins (Crystal Palace), Mike Williams (Wrexham), Rhys Williams (Middlesbrough), Nicky Adams (Leicester), Mark Bradley (Walsall), Jack Collison (West Ham), David Edwards (Wolves), Andy King (Leicester), Joe Ledley (Cardiff), Shaun MacDonald (Swansea), Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal), Jonathan Brown (Cardiff), Simon Church (Reading), David Cotterill (Sheffield Wednesday), Craig Davies (Oldham Athletic), Ched Evans (Manchester City), Sam Vokes (Wolves).
