Martinez Starts Keeper Hunt

Roberto Martinez says that he is in the hunt for a new keeper again

Martinez is once again on the search for a new keeper after the injury blow that will sideline Dorus De Vries for two months.

Current cover for De Vries Artur Krysiak will deputise against Southampton on Saturday but Roberto wants cover again despite this factor.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Martinez admitted the extent of De Vries injury would keep him out for two months but he was confident that the on loan Birmingham youngster could do a job.

Martinez said “He (Dorus) had his operation and went home afterwards and I am happy with that because now the recovery starts.

“That should take between six and seven weeks but knowing Dorus he should be back before then because he is such a strong character and he will not want to miss out.

“Artur is first in line at the moment. I would not bring someone in who didn’t know the environment around him. He has been playing reserve football and working extremely hard and I am happy with him because that is why you have back-up goalkeepers.

“We do need someone to come in because you can’t go with just one keeper for six weeks and we will look to do something before Saturday to give us strength in that department.

“But I have no problem throwing Artur in, he’s a positive keeper who is very secure and has been waiting for his chance. I hope he takes it.

“He has been impressing in training and now it is his opportunity because once you are on the pitch you have to make sure you are ready.”
