Bristol City Will Arrive In A Bubble

Bristol City's fixture at the Liberty Stadium in September will be a bubble trip for visting fans

There had been hopes that travelling restrictions for supporters would be lifted this season especially after the police at Bristol reported no problems in the Swans visit last season.

However, South Wales Police have dictated that Bristol City fans will have to travel on official transport only to the game whilst the return fixture at Ashton Gate in April is reported as being 'unlikely' to have the same restrictions on Swans fans.

Yet again the police will find themselves the subject of discussion and it does seem illogical that the two fixtures should have differing arrangements for the travelling supporters.

Doug Harman from Bristol City told their official website "I'm very disappointed with this decision, particularly bearing in mind our last fixture at Ashton Gate (against Swansea) passed without problems and our initial discussions with the police and Swansea were very positive.

"However, together with Avon & Somerset Police we only have jurisdiction over the Ashton Gate fixture, whilst Swansea City and South Wales Police have the final say over the Liberty Stadium match.

"Bristol City and Avon & Somerset have made strong representations to Swansea City and South Wales Police, but they have been firm and taken the decision not to relax travel for our supporters in September. It's unfortunate but out of our control and there is nothing we can now do to change their position.

"The club, along with Avon & Somerset Police will push ahead with our plan to relax travel for Swansea supporters for the return fixture in April 2010.

"The hope is that the match passes without incident so we can demostrate to South Wales Police and Swansea City that bubble trips are not necessary in the future - our aim, of course, is to make it easier for Bristol City supporters to follow the team."

But the accumulated losses mean that player sales will be inevitable in the summer if we remain in the Championship.
