Brendan - It Was A Harsh Scoreline

Brendan Rodgers was in no doubt that the scoreline at the Stadium of Light did not reflect the play as the Swans were beaten 2-0

Brendan Rodgers was in no doubt that the scoreline at the Stadium of Light did not reflect the play as the Swans were beaten 2-0

He said after the game, "I thought it was a very harsh scoreline

"In terms of the result itself, it's disappointing, but I thought we were absolutely fantastic today.

"To come to a ground like this against a team who are on a high, I can have no complaints with how we played. But that shows that the level of performance is improving all the time.

"The first goal we are a little disappointed with, as we thought we could have closed down the space better," said Brendan.

"But even then, he (Sessegnon) is only a few yards in from the touchline and he has bent it in with a wonderful piece of skill. But the second goal we have no complaints about and it was a fantastic strike.

"We play to win, and that's the beauty of this group. They are all winners," he said. "But that's football and we'll move on and look to pick up three points in our next league game.

"The belief the players have gives them great confidence in their game. We are developing all the time and we hope that we can continue to turn the performances into wins."

Annual accounts show that the club will have to sell players if we don't go up
The club released the annual accounts for the 2022/3 season this week, and despite the headline figure of an overall loss of £33.7 million, we’re not in danger of any points deduction for now. But the accumulated losses mean that player sales will be inevitable in the summer if we remain in the Championship.

Leeds frustrated by well-drilled Sunderland
We needed to win this game to regain the momentum that seemed to have gone over the international break, but this was another pedestrian performance, without any of the intensity that was needed to break down a determined Sunderland defence.
