Exclusive: Have the Monk family seen the last of their hero Diouf?

Tim Whelan can never resist having a little jibe about the Monk's of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and their appreciation of El Hadji Diouf and this exclusive picture taken after today's draw with Sheffield Wednesday shows them begging their hero to stay!

Diouf reminds me very much of a quote I heard this week about train-travel rapidly becoming a "luxury rather than necessity" and I suppose the same could be said for El Hadji. Last season, he was a necessity but now on £10,000 a week and seemingly destined for a cameo-role from the bench, is he one of life's little luxuries we will have to cut back on?

He got 5/10 minutes today and I must admit he looked a little on the portly side, given he has spent most of the summer in Guinean resort bars nursing an infected shin maybe there is no surprise there?

And nor would it be that much of a surprise if Diouf does become, what Phil Hay biblically described as "the sacrificial lamb" and move on somewhere where they can afford him, use him sparingly and like us learn to love him after initially being hostile and sceptical about his character.

However it goes without saying Dioufy, there will always be a cup of tea and a place set at the dining table in suburban Ashby-de-la-Zouch if you are ever passing by.

Annual accounts show that the club will have to sell players if we don't go up
The club released the annual accounts for the 2022/3 season this week, and despite the headline figure of an overall loss of £33.7 million, we’re not in danger of any points deduction for now. But the accumulated losses mean that player sales will be inevitable in the summer if we remain in the Championship.
