Blackpool chairman furious over QPR Gorkss chase

Blackpool Chairman Karl Oyston says QPR’s conduct in the Kaspars Gorkss transfer saga is the worst he’s ever known in football and says he will do everything in his power to stop the defender moving to Loftus Road.

Oyston is about to lose his star attacking player from last season Wes Hoolahan to Norwich in a £250k deal because a clause in the Irish winger’s contract means Blackpool must allow him to speak to other clubs if they meet the valuation.

Gorkss has a similar clause in his deal, despite Pool taking out an option to extend it by a year this summer. But while Hoolahan is going to Carrow Road with Blackpool’s blessing the Tangerines are seriously unhappy with the way QPR have gone about the chase of their reigning player of the year Gorkss.

They have already reported QPR to the FA for making an illegal approach and today chairman Karl Oyston said that while it was likely Gorkss would be leaving this summer, he won’t be going to QPR if he’s got anything to do with it.

Oyston said: “I am happy to leave the FA and the Football League to resolve this but if I've anything to do with it he would go to any club other than QPR.

"QPR, in my opinion, have behaved really badly and it's probably as blatant as I have seen during my time in football. They just seem to refuse to follow the basic rules or think they are above the basic rules which of course they are not. We'll just wait and see how it turns out.

"I have spoken to Kaspars directly about all this and there have been other clubs coming in and showing an interest in him. We all hope he stays with us at Bloomfield Road but we are again in a situation where he has one of these terrible clauses in his contract.

"On one hand it looks as is if we may lose one of our better defenders but manager Simon Grayson seems confident he can find a good replacement if Kaspars leaves and of course we will be doing everything in our powers to try and keep him here with us for next season."

With the clause in place and the Latvian international known to be favouring a move to Loftus Road ahead of his other suitors in the Championship it’s hard to see what Oyston can do to prevent the move but this saga looks to have some way to run before it’s resolution.
