Chris Wood is a man in demand. Tonight's Leicester Mercury report that the 26-year-old could be heading to either Elland Road or Wolves, the Foxes having agreed fees with both clubs. However QPR may also enter the fray to sign him. Reports elsewhere suggest we might even turn to yet another Italian Serie B striker if we miss out on Wood.
The Mercury report appears to suggest that we agreed the fee with Leicester on Friday and are offering more generous terms than Wolves, the Black Country men agreeing to match our offer today and Wood who previously worked with Kenny Jackett whilst on-loan to Millwall could be swayed to return to the West Midlands. He previously played at West Brom before signing for Leicester in January 2013.
Even the report from the local-paper in Leicester is somewhat disbelieving at the £2.5m fee City will apparently get for Wood given he's barely kicked a ball in anger for them in over 12 months and will be out of contract in the summer.
If the whites' miss out on Wood it would be their third-striker snub according to the Daily Star, as we've lost out on Clayton Donaldson who we were unable to agree a fee with Birmingham for and also Nicky Maynard, who has gone to Nottingham Forest on trial.
However we have a back-up plan according to the Star, who claim that Uwe Rosler will snap up Uruguayan hit-man Felipe Avanatti. The 22-year-old scored thirteen times for Ternana in Serie B and he's priced at a whopping £3m according to the report that incorrectly states it will be Rosler's second-summer signing when actually he's already brought in Lee Erwin, Tom Horton and Sol Bamba.
Obviously I know nothing about Avanatti but it does seem a lot of money to play for a striker from the Italian second-tier and given how our other signings from Serie B struggled to make any impact last season then I'm bound to be sceptical.
