Saints have joined several other Premier League clubs including West Ham United and Crystal Palace in the race for a highly rated defender.
Saints are being linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dominic Iorfa. although according to africanfootball.com they will face competition from at least two other Premier League clubs.
Iorfa who will turn 21 in June is the son of a Nigerian player of the same name who plied his trade in England for a period in the 90's playing for well over a dozen lower league and non league clubs with Iorfa Jnr being born in Southend during his fathers time there.
It was the Essex club's youth system he joined as a youngster before heading off to Wolverhampton'a academy at the age of 15.
He has been at Wolves since then although he did have a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town at the end of the 2013/14 season.
Last season having broken into the team midway through the season he held his place and this season has continued as a regular winning two England U21 caps in the process.
At 6ft 4 inches tall you would expect Iorfa to be a central defender and he has played there of late for Wolves, but mainly he has played as a right back showing the kind of versatility that Saints look for in a player these days.
He has already signed a long term deal back in November for the Black Country club who rate him highly and will be looking for a decent fee for his services.
