Leeds United made a double transfer swoop on Thursday but the downside appears to be that one of our much coveted youngsters is on his way to Bournemouth!
Hot on the heels of signing keeper Rob Green on a free from QPR, Leeds also announced the season long loan of Swansea midfielder Matt Grimes; Gary Monk raiding his former club for the player he signed for £1.75m from Exeter City last year.
And by nightfall a sixth signing of the summer was announced when Leeds agreed an "undisclosed fee" with Oxford United for 23 year old forward Kemal Roofe. Just a week ago it appeared Leeds had baulked at the U's £3m valuation of the player they'd prised from West Bromwich just a year ago but reports are suggesting that Massimo Cellino has dipped into his own pocket to meet Oxfords valuation and the sell on obligation they owe to the Baggies.
However the downside appears to be that we lose Lewis Cook to Bournemouth. Having agreed a £15m deal to bring Jordan Ibe from Liverpool the Cherries apparently have agreed a £6m down payment for Cook which could rise to £10m depending what source you read.
Obviously the hugely unpopular decision to sell the tenacious Cook, who's confidence and ability belittles his tender 19 years has been countered by three signings in 24 hours. Cook was entering the final year of his contract and although it rankles he's going to a tinpot small club at least he'll see some action there rather than bench warm or make a swift return to the lower leagues.
It is understood that Massimo Cellino has blessed Cook's move as a reward for the players non-confrontational conduct as the player would have been happy to stay put. However our esteemed owner isn't so charitable towards left back Charlie Taylor who apparently is interesting newly promoted Burnley and Middlesbrough and like Lewis Cook is in the final year of his Leeds deal.
Taylor, 22 is represented by the same agent as Sam Byram who sealed a bitter, cut price move to West Ham last January. It appears that the egocentric Leeds owner will try and hold on to Taylor who seems intent to snub Leeds offer of a new deal and move on.
