Leeds United have today confirmed the acquisition of Polish international Mateusz Klich, who arrives on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee, making him the first signing of Thomas Christiansen's premiership.
The 27-year-old, who scored six goals while laying on another four for his teammates last season, has spoken of his personal elation concerning the move.
Speaking to the club's official website, Klich remarked: "I am very happy to have signed for such a huge club and I’m looking forward to playing in the famous white shirt.
"I’m excited to come to England and test myself in the Championship and I can’t wait to get going.
"The team came close to promotion last season so hopefully we can go one better and I’m looking forward to meeting my new team mates next week and getting started.”
A product of Cracovia's youth structure, the Tarnów-born midfielder lists German outfits VFL Wolfsburg and FC Kaiserslautern among his former employers, in addition to PEC Zwolle of the Netherlands. He failed to register even a solitary appearance for Die Wölfe after moving to the Volkswagen Arena in June 2011; but by sporting the blue and white stripes of Zwolle and the vermilion of Kaiserslautern, Klich firmly established a distinguished reputation as a cultured midfielder - capable of instigating sweeping attacks with his eclectic range of passing in addition to scoring goals of his own - a fact that prompted Twente to secure his services in the summer of 2016.
Throughout the 2016-17 campaign, the performances of the industrious midfielder enthralled Twente supporters, with many in Enschede disenchanted to learn of his departure. The sale, though, may plausibly have been a necessity. Since the 2014/15 season, the club have been afflicted by austere financial circumstances.
After becoming the inaugural addition of the Thomas Christiansen era, United supporters will doubtless be relishing the prospect of seeing Klich in action in the forthcoming weeks, as a rigorous pre-season programme awaits.
