Leeds United: Whites confirm capture of Serie A forward

Leeds United have today confirmed the signing of the Italian-born Ghanaian striker Caleb Ekuban from Chievo Verona for an undisclosed fee.

Ekuban, 23, completes his move to Elland Road in the wake of speculation in plenitude; the forward, who scored 18 goals during a loan spell with Albania's Partizani Tirana last season, had been frequently linked with the Whites since his return to Chievo.

Having risen through the youth ranks at the Verona club, the striker had enjoyed additional loans within the lower echelons of Italian football at both AC Lumezzane and Renate.

Though the player was merely a sporadic scorer during his career in his country of birth, the aforementioned period spent by Ekuban in Albania saw his market value burgeon - as did interest in him from potential suitors.

Partizani are reputed to have been keen to make the player's stay with them a permanent arrangement, but United have secured the player's signature with the dynamic forward penning a four-year contract with the club.

The 23-year-old could well sport the famed white shirt for the first time away to North Ferriby United tomorrow evening, as Leeds bid for a third successive win of pre-season.

The club released the annual accounts for the 2022/3 season this week, and despite the headline figure of an overall loss of £33.7 million, we’re not in danger of any points deduction for now. But the accumulated losses mean that player sales will be inevitable in the summer if we remain in the Championship.
