Leeds United: Whites capture talented League Two midfielder

Leeds United have belatedly confirmed the signing of fledgling Forest Green Rovers midfielder Jordan Stevens, with the Whites paying an undisclosed sum to the League Two club for the player.

Gloucester-born Stevens, 17, had recently succeeded in breaking into the first-team at The New Lawn this season, registering 15 appearances in all competitions for Rovers whilst also scoring his first goal in professional football away to Cheltenham Town in an EFL Trophy match.

United have earmarked him for their Under-23 team - coached by the 34-year-old Spaniard Carlos Corberán - and the youthful midfielder is the fifth and final player to be signed by Leeds for their development squad during the January transfer window.

In signing for the Whites, Stevens has followed in the footsteps of goalkeeper Kamil Miazek, defenders Aapo Halme (HJK Helsinki) and Pascal Struijk (AFC Ajax) and strikers Sam Dalby (Leyton Orient) and Oliver Šarkić (SL Benfica), who were all signed by United for Corberán's Under-23's. He is also United's 11th capture of the January window overall, as defender Laurens De Bock (Club Brugge), midfielders Yosuke Ideguchi (Gamba Osaka) and Adam Forshaw (Middlesbrough) and striker Tyler Roberts (West Bromwich Albion) have all signed for the first team.

Stevens has acceded to a contract at Elland Road until 2020 - with United possessing an option to extend his stay by a further year should they wish to - and he could be afforded a first appearance in the white shirt when Leeds' Under-23 squad host Birmingham City at Thorp Arch tomorrow afternoon.
