Jesse Lingard For Southampton ? I Don't Think So !

According to the latest transfer rumour Saints are one of three clubs linked with a move for Manchester United's Jesse Lingard, but this is perhaps one of the more far fetched rumours for more than one reason.

Saints are being linked with Jesse Lingard from Manchester United alongside Newcastle United & his former loan club West Ham United, but surely Ralph Hasenhuttl will not be interested in a player who is not only out of Saints normal age range, turning 29 in December, but also out of Saints wage bracket and indeed transfer fee ceiling given that although his contract is up next summer United are still looking for around £12 million for the player.

At West ham United last season on loan, Lingard scored 9 Premier League goals in just 16 appearances, but all of those goals were in the first 10 games and in the remaining 6 he failed to hit the back of the net.

At Old Trafford this season he has found games and goals harder to come by and United are ready to try and get something for him in January.

I think that they won't be getting anything from Saints taking all things into consideration, however he does fit the profile that both Newcastle & West Ham would look for, someone to give them a boost in the New Year as he did at the London Stadium at the same stage last season.

Annual accounts show that the club will have to sell players if we don't go up
The club released the annual accounts for the 2022/3 season this week, and despite the headline figure of an overall loss of £33.7 million, we’re not in danger of any points deduction for now. But the accumulated losses mean that player sales will be inevitable in the summer if we remain in the Championship.
