Former Saints Striker Could Be Coming Home !

Virtually every transfer window over the past couple of years has seen the rumour of a return to Southampton for Danny Ings, it seems that this summer will be no different.

givemesport.com are reporting that Saints are looking to bring back Danny Ings to score the goals that will fire them to promotion back to the Premier League next season.

Of course this isn't the first time that Ings has been linked to a return to St Mary's, barely a transfer window has gone by without the same rumour since he left the South Coast for Aston Villa in the summer of 2021.

Then he was at the peak of his career and Saints pocketed around £30 million, although a portion went to his former club Liverpool.

Since then though, what he hoped would be a high profile move which would lead to him playing for England in the 2022 World Cup has gone very sour.

At Villa it never really clicked, although his record of 13 goals in 48 games wasn't bad, meaning that when they decided to cut their losses after just 17 months at the club, they did find someone willing to pay a decent fee, although the total fee paid of £15 million from West Ham United was only half of their original outlay.

But his time at West Ham has been an absolute disaster for his career, although during the last 2 years he has seemingly had many clubs including Southampton interested, but hasn't been willing to give up his extortionate wages at the London Stadium.

In two years he has started just11 Premier League games for the Hammers, plus another 41 as sub and has scored just 4 goals.

He has been fit and played a fair chunk of games, it is just he hasn't been picked.

Now with his contract due to expire this summer, it seems that his agent is getting to work, it is said that Saints tried to get a deal over the line to bring him back to St Mary's in the summer, but couldn't get it done for whatever reason.

Ings will turn 33 in July and although that is a good age for a striker, given his lack of game time over the past 3 years or so, he will perhaps be in a better physical state than the average player of that age.

Indeed over the past 10 years due to injury not being picked he has managed just 128 Premier League starts, plus another 77 off the bench , almost half of these were made in Southampton colours.

So if Saints can bring Danny Ings home, then this could be a good piece of business for the club.
