Atle Jensen (Norway) writes: "I was 17 when I went to Leeds the first time. It was around Easter in the first season in the old second division in 1983, air tickets cost a fortune, so me and a friend took the train from Norway to Gothenburg in Sweden, the ferry to Harwich, train to London and then to the North. It took almost two days to get from Norway to Burnden Park for Bolton – Leeds. David Harvey and Peter Lorimer played, we won 2-1 thanks to a Paul Hart winning goal – I think. We were sitting on the main stand, watching the fantastic Leeds fans behind the goal. Made us prouder than ever.
"Two days later Elland Road was full of optimism, promotion was within reach, Oldham should be an easy win. But it ended 0-0, two young Norwegians learned straight away what it’s like to be a Leeds fan – always be prepared for disappointments. I’ve still got Yorkshire Evening Post from the day after the Oldham game: ”Time is running out for goalless United”.

Les Ives (North Yorks) writes: "Although people remember leeds back in the eighties for small on good football and big on trouble - well theyd be right(!) but can anyone ever remember a better atmosphere at any ground than in the 87 season when Billys team got to the play offs and the FA semi final? Anyone remember the nuculer bomb going off in the Geldard when Ormsmby scored against QPR or the day out at Hillsbrough. A mate of mine got a seat with the Coventry fans and said that most of them sat in stunned amazement at the Leeds support.Iv'e seen good Leeds backing since but nothing like 87!"
Brian Three Lions writes: "I was a big fan of Brendan Ormsby, Billy picked him up dead cheap from Villa and I honestly do not think he let the side down (bar that mistake in the 1987 Semi v Cov but he had been brilliant all season and it is sad he is sometimes remembered for that mistake - it was his goal in R6 v QPR that got us through - remember!) it was a shame he suffered injury problems after that and eventually drifted down the leagues. I remember reading an article about him working as a post-man in Leeds! Unbelievable! its a far cry from the footballers of today who I'm sure won't be avoiding rabid dogs to shove junk-mail through people's letterboxes just to make ends meet - shocking!"
