As soon as the attention turned to the look of the issue from a political perspective, this was inevitable.

To be fair he's hardly helped himself by apparently catching Covid 6 days after the "last" date for exemption, attending events whilst infected, travelling whilst infected, lying on the immigration form, coming across as an arrogant and entitled creature. (This last is more likely his PR team rather him personally).

To be fairer, the Aus Gov't made a complete hash of the process. Being excluded on health grounds I can understand. Being excluded because a politician wants to be "strong" (it's election year in Aus) Leaves a sour taste.

May be more mileage in this yet of course.

Good. No sympathy whatsoever. There are thousands waiting for cancer surgeries etc but can't get treatment because hospitals are full of knobheads who refused a vax. Rules should apply to everyone.

I think the main point in all of this is that he knowingly continued to mix with others after testing positive. There is absolutely no defence for acting like a selfish, self entitled bastard when millions of people around the world have died. It’s just tennis FFS. I also wonder how precious he is about entering countries that insist on having yellow fever jabs etc, or is he so special he is exempt from that too? Many people have locked themselves away, not seen loved ones, lost money etc yet we have a strata of people who are above the rules because they are special. No they are not. They are just selfish and self entitled. Yes the Aussie government could have handled it better, but the anti vax brigade and the idiots who seem to think that being good at a sport means you can ignore the rules laid down to protect us were always going to kick up a stink and make political capital out of it. If it had been any normal human being no one would know because it would not be an issue. I just hope that he now gets treated as being a danger to the rest of us and not some kind of Spartacus figure that the conspiracy theorists and anti vaxxers use to drum up more support.

I'd suggest it's his ridiculous ego more than the cash...

Australia has been very strict throughout the pandemic, he thought he could ridicule them and get away with it...he should apologise and get on the next plane home.

True. After all that's happened - why would he want to play now anyway? Hardly been good for his preparation. Like Martina Navratilova said, "Just get on a plane and go home".

Whether he wants to play or not is not an option for him.
He s not entitled to stay so he must go
home or be sent to an offshore detention centre.
He's fortunate enough to still have a choice.
He should place trust in his good fortune and give thanks, which of course he won't.
Ambitions beyond tennis perhaps?

He repeatedly broke isolation rules, and failed to declare visiting 2 countries prior to his arrival. If you have ever seen the Aussie border programme, they come down hard for much less than this. It isn’t a political move, though it has been left for the politicians to decide.

Advantage Australian authoritarian government, even over ruling their own judicial system.

One question that should be asked is why Novax is making such a stand and risking his career, why doesn't he show the same blind faith that others have shown?

83 per cent of Aussies want Novax deported - one thing this episode shows is how much lockdowns and vaccine mandates have twisted once reasonable and liberal people into scarred, traumatised people unable to respect fairness and autonomy because of what they have been made to endure by the authorities. It’s very tragic — and as Australia bans the world’s best tennis player from the country because he isn’t vaccinated against a cold he’s already had and which is anyway running rampant through the population, everybody loses.

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

Please stop Jelly. Since when did cold’s kill 5.4m people? Why is he doing it? Who knows but there are set rules in place and why should he be exempt just because he is good at hitting a ball over the net. If he had infected someone else and they had died, how would you feel about him then?

over the last 2 years, 650 people under 65 years old (in the UK) have died WITH covid.
That is not taking into account an co-morbidities.

Lets continue to destroy the country for that

The full lockdown was ridiculous. Those who set the the rules didn't even believe in them. Neither did much of the Labour Party

Without the full lock down the death toll would have been higher. If the lock down had happened earlier, more lives would have been saved. Why some of you people constantly try and play down the severity of the pandemic only you will know. Thank god though you are not in a position to make these decisions.

I've read this morning that England should be back to normal by September or thereabouts as a combination of weakening virus and herd immunity eventually takes effect....but in contrast those countries that went for zero covid ala Australia could be stuck in a cycle of boosters and restrictions for quite a few years...now that doesn't sound great at all Sogs.
