It’s far from unusual for highly intelligent people to lack basic common sense. |

Good to know that at least my memory of the goal Gennoe let in at The Dell chimes with yours Nick. As I posted earlier he was beaten from a mile out with a shot he should have easily pushed over the bar. |

Thanks, you are absolutely correct. My memory obviously fades as the years progress regretfully. |

I was at Wembley for the League Cup Final and if memory serves the pitch cut up like a plowed field following a week of snow and heavy rain. Wasn’t Ian Andrews our keeper ? Whoever it was, he looked incredibly nervous and at some point in the first half he let a shot go right through his hands and it went along the goal line before Chris Nicholl came to his rescue and belted the ball away. David Peach put us in front and then we were outplayed by a very good Forest side in the second half who lead 3-1 before Nick Holmes scored a consolation goal toward the end. On to Arsenal at the Dell. We were winning easily before our keeper ( Ian Andrews ? ) let in a shot from a mile out which he should have tipped over the bar. For the replay I believe Lawrie dropped Andrews ( can’t remember who replaced him ) and played a clearly unfit Charlie George and we deservedly lost again. The whole season turned to ashes in the space of 72 hours. Ironically I seem to remember that Ian Andrews had not conceded a single goal in the six games before his first and suspect only career Wembley appearance. |

Without a shadow of a doubt Wayne Rooney. An absolute disaster as a manager but he continually pontificates about tactics when his track record proves he hasn’t the slightest clue. The only saving grace is that most of the time he mumbles so much that I simply can’t understand much of the utter dribble he talks. |

I thought that the rules of the competition are that the away side is entitled to 25% of the home team’s ground capacity ? If so, then our ticket allocation should be 7500. Wether we can sell that many is of course another question although given the relatively short distance to travel it shouldn’t be out of the question if the two clubs price it sensibly. |

Is that Yaxley Tommy Robinson Lennon or is he conveniently using some other name at the moment ? |

If you are going to carry an argument and convince people of its worth it helps if you get your facts correct in the first place Ron. My understanding is:- 1. People coming to this country are initially asylum seekers and only become illegal immigrants if and when their request to stay actually fails or they overstay their time granted to stay. 2. Many hundreds of thousands more people come to and are accepted into the U K through normal channels each year than the relatively few who chance their arm in rubber dinghies annually. 3. As pointed out by another poster it’s £49 per week not per day. 4. Ratcliffe didn’t supply employment and job security for a good number of back room staff at Manure, in fact exactly the opposite. |

A1079, if eating humble pie were a competition you would be a distant second to my good self after my comments when we were losing 3-0 early this evening. Still, as they say confession is good for the soul. |

They won’t. Expect to see a late change in the rules, along the lines of “ Any Club playing in North London with a name beginning with T shall retrospectively have bonus points awarded for every game where their home attendance was in excess of 40,000”. |

I refer honourable members to my post on February 8 at 14.55 headed “ One swallow does not a summer make “. This is what you regularly get to expect from The Saints when you’ve followed them for sixty years. Nothing much else to say other than why was Archer picked to start when we now have not one but two centre forwards ? It’s the hope that kills you don’t you know. [Post edited 10 Feb 20:21]

We now have two centre forwards but start with neither, preferring to play Archer this evening. Why ? |

I expect to get pelters for this but here goes. I didn’t attend at St Mary’s yesterday due to health issues but did listen on Solent. From what I could gather, up and until our new boy scored it was a mediocre display at best which was heading for a goalless draw. On the basis of one glorious header we now have every man and his dog suggesting we can sneak into the playoffs, which of course I hope we do. However, before we all get too excited, please let’s not forget that this is The Saints, who are just as likely to get done by relegation threatened Leicester on Tuesday evening, it being their first home game after a six point deduction. It’s the hope that kills you as my sixty years of support have taught me. |

Our historical form against Watford is excellent. According to 11v11, since 2016 in all competitions we have played them seventeen times and lost only twice. We should have enough to beat them, but fail to do so and any of us who still think we are a top six team ( I don’t ) can start to look forward to another bubble fixture next season. |

For all his rather different appearance particularly hair ( or lack of ) wise, Jimmy was a damn good footballer. You don’t get a Division Two champions medal and a Division One champions medal with Liverpool unless you can play a bit. He got both in 61/62 and 63/64 respectively. He was also a very important part of the team that finally got us promoted to the promised land of the top flight for the very first time in 65/66. What he possessed was a wonderful footballing brain that enabled him to pick a pass beautifully. If ever the expression “ Don’t judge a book by its cover “ applies, it most definitely was Jimmy. In his prime, I’d have him in our current team as the first name on the team sheet, he really was that good. [Post edited 5 Feb 18:05]

Having another fun night for him in Manchester with three put by him already. For a player with such a high reputation has he actually ever won anything ? Then again I believe he does hold the record of being relegated from The Premier League whilst between the sticks with three different clubs. Sheffield Utd, Bournemouth and ourselves. |
