Paul Green & Charlie Adams Transfer To Different Pools?
Paul Green & Charlie Adams Transfer To Different Pools?
Wednesday, 26th Jan 2011 12:21 by Daniel J Sewart

The Charlie Adams saga has football fans debating as Blackpool slapped a £12 million price tag on the midfielder. But Rams fans would not have expected that Paul Green would somehow get dragged into it.

Green was this week named in the Republic of Ireland’s provisional squad for the Carling Nations Cup encounter with Wales and at the same time has become the target of media speculation in a move to the Seasider’s.

Media speculation has identified the Rams midfielder as Ian Holloways target should he lose Adams to either Liverpool or one of his other suitors during the transfer window.

This would at first seem odd considering Green would be swapping the bench in the Championship for first team Premier League action. But as reports suggest enquiries have already been made, perhaps that is why the Rams red head was on the pine against Forest in the first place.

Holloway has had a long history of turning seemingly mediocre players into world beaters as his team of inexpensive and recycled chargers have taken the top flight by storm.

Perhaps Paul Green will add to a list which already includes two strikers who the Rams saw fit not keep in their team. Frustratingly week in week out, Campbell and Varney do not look out of place leading the line for Blackpool.

A Rams fans greatest fear would be losing both Green and Commons on transfers before the window closes and in turn only have the addition of Ben Davies and a couple of loans (both of which are still yet to be finalised) added to their squad.

If that was the case, the growing unrest amongst Rams fans could begin rumbling slightly louder.

I wouldn't call Green 'mediocre' and in the right team he is a very effective and willing midfield soldier. He can improve further; at least Derby can gain a fee.

Varney was a lost soul at Derby (ironically IMHO, perhaps he'd be useful now as a foil for Chris Porter?) but we might benefit if a good fee comes our way for him sooner or later.

With DJ Campbell, there seemed to be obstructions and competing deals for him that intervened in Derby getting him for a second period....Luke Moore is a deja vu incident on that one and perhaps money comes into that pattern of failure by DCFC?

Just think, we might soon be lucky enough to be seeing Leicester's 4th or 5th choice striker of this season, in Martyn Waghorn. No wonder we are a fragmented, unsettled, struggling side.

I wasn't calling him mediocre.... i was saying Holloway has taken plenty of mediocre players and turned them into diamonds.

U were reading too much into that one Pkay! :)

Well, by extension....I thought it was worth a mention to provoke comment!

How do others feel? Seems that Nigel has been leaving out Green recently as transfer speculation occurred; hopefully he has lodged a list of good, PERMANENT possible midfielders to replace him?

Shouldn't we be looking at loaning Michael Tonge again, or is Davies going to be the only recruit in midfield? Should Miles play in midfield or defence?

Discuss!
