Leeds and Burnley charged over confrontation
Leeds and Burnley charged over confrontation
Thursday, 5th May 2011 13:56 by Tim Whelan

Leeds and Burnley have been charged by the Football Association over the hadbags that took place during the second half of Saturday's Championship game at Elland Road.

The FA statement read: "The FA has charged Leeds United and Burnley with failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour. The charge relates to a recent fixture between the two sides at Elland Road on 30 April 2011. Both clubs have until 4pm on 6 May 2011 to respond."

Actually, it was a Burnley player who did the provoking, all the Leeds players did was to respond. The incident occured when Chris McCann kicked Max Gradel in the back, causing several Leeds players to react angrily. I'm a bit surprised that the FA have bothered to charge the clubs, as the match officials managed to deal with it at the time, and they didn't think it was serious enough to warrant sending anybody off.

Perhaps we should send the FA a video of the Hunter v. Lee punch-up from 1975, to show them what proper violent conduct actually looks like
