Twits and Tit Bits

Despite Twitter comments to the contrary, Kasper Schmeichel has completed his move to Leicester City and is Max Gradel the next player on a contrract countdown to be heading for the Elland Rd exit door.

Schmeichel's  move has finally been confirmed, a week after Leeds' shock decision to sell him to Championship rivals Leicester. On Sunday however, comments attributed to Schmeichel on Twitter seemed to suggest the Dane would snub the Foxes and sit tight at Leeds. It was later confirmed the comments were a hoax.

The motives behind Schmeichel's move are debatable, however it is universally agreed that he had just one year remaining on his deal and this time next year he would have been free to move on a Bosman. Another player in the same situation is Max Gradel and worrying for Leeds fans Elland Roads favourite Ivorian is a target for West Ham - according to the media with speculation growing on Monday our 18-goal man is Upton Park bound.

Out-of-contract Neil Kilkenny has completed a switch to Bristol City at the weekend.

Understandably Leeds fans will struggle to keep a lid on these developments. It could be argued that Bates' policy of austerity is leaving us in a vulnerable position, two and a bit year deals seem the norm and rather than negotiate extended deals the club seem content to sit on their hands and panic going into the final year.

The scrutiny will fall upon Simon Grayson too - is he little more than a Bates' "Yes" man? At the moment, it feels like we are standing still and the only way is backwards towards the wilderness of League One like the two Sheffield clubs have gone before us.

Other than capturing the headlines for banning Granny's from ER, the club need a move in the transfer market to capture the imagination of the fans and I don't mean the signing of a reserve keeper on a free transfer who has played for more than a dozen clubs!
