During that car-crash 2006/07 season, Ugo Ehiogu actually started half a dozen matches for us - before admitting he could not cope with the rigours of the Championship!

Dennis Wises' loan signing of Ehiogu was hailed as something of a coup. He persuaded the 34-year-old one time England man to drop down from then-Premiership Boro to bolster a leaky defence.

The man who starred against us in the 1996 League Cup final for Aston Villa, made his debut against more men in Claret, Burnley on 28th November 2006 - Ehiogu by his own admission was not fully fit but he did inject an air of stability into the Leeds backline but worryingly Leeds crashed 2-1.

There was more bad news to follow as Leeds were fined £2000 by the FA as Ehiogu's inclusion meant the whites' had breached the rules by including SIX loan stars in their squad for the visit of Burnley! The other five were Keepers Tony Warner and Graham Slack, Matt Heath, Tresor Kandol and Geoff Horsfield.

Scrambling the equaliser at Barnsley, Leeds fans were left believing that Ehiogu could be the man to ease our genuine fear of relegation - but Leeds slipped to another bad defeat, at home to Derby on December 9th and Ehiogu was scored as 6/10 for "trying to keep things together" by the YEP. Behind the scenes, things were taking his toll on him and he was missing for the trip to Ipswich the following week which ended in a 1-0 defeat for the whites.

Ehiogu played in the draw against Hull and the Boxing Day defeat at Sunderland, but his Leeds career would end in massive disappointment away at Stoke on December 30th - Leeds crashed 3-1 and Ehiogu was credited with Stoke's second after seeing Patrik Berger's shot deflect off him - he was also at the centre of a horrendous mix-up for Stoke's third scored by Ricardo Fuller.

Ehiogu made the stark admission that he could not cope with the Championship's demands playing two games per week. In hindsight it was a massive gamble by Dennis Wise, that backfired as the player was clearly unfit, past his best and unable to commit to the long-term objective of getting Leeds out of trouble.

Ehiogu was snapped up by Rangers, scoring their goal of the season against Celtic and whilst that cemented him in Ger's folklore he was not a regular in Walter Smith's eyes and wound down his career at Sheffield United then MK Dons - where he quit football in the summer of 2009.

Now he is believed to be in the music-business.
