Wright Due Back Later This Week
Wright Due Back Later This Week

TWTD understands that keeper Richard Wright will fly back from his trial with Dallas FC later this week, well in time to be amongst the Blues’ subs against his old club West Ham at Portman Road next Tuesday. Third-choice Wright, 34, flew to the US on Saturday to hold preliminary discussions about a possible move to the MLS side.

Wright, who has been left out of the matchday 16 since Alex McCarthy’s recruitment on loan, is required for the game against the Hammers due to the Reading man’s red card at Leeds on Saturday.

McCarthy faces a one-match ban with Arran Lee-Barrett set to start against Sam Allardyce’s side. Fourth-choice Cody Cropper is not yet back from the knee injury which required surgery before Christmas.

Former England keeper Wright, who is understood to have a clause in the short-term contract he signed with Town in November which allows him to move on if another club comes in for him, was always expected to spend only a few days talking with the Texas-based club and will fly back as planned.

The ex-Arsenal and Everton man, who has made only one appearance during his third spell with Town, is believed to be keen on continuing his career in the US.

If Wright does move on, the Blues are likely to target another senior keeper as cover for McCarthy and Lee-Barrett, either before the transfer window closes next week or on an emergency loan basis when that option is available a week later.
