Swansea City Supporter's Trust Statement

Home > Story Index >Supporter's Trust Statement

The Trust board would like to clarify its position in relation to the call for a boycott of forthcoming matches.

In essence, the Trust constitution does not allow us to call a boycott as such action would be against the basic aims of the Trust.

We remain of the opinion however, that a decision to boycott a game should rest with each individual and we would respect such individuals' actions be they members or not.

We also appreciate the level of concern regarding the current situation at the club and would wish to assure ALL fans that whilst it may outwardly appear that the Trust is not actively calling for action or protest, this does not mean that its officers are not pursuing other avenues pertinent to the current problem.

We are unable due to the sensitivity of such enquiries to disclose these details but can confirm that the Board has recently written to His Lordship Judge Thomas in relation to the recent court case and the subsequent lack of developments following the verdict. In the event that our approach elicits some action, then we will of course make any relevant information public.

Notwithstanding current issues, the Trust must now progress in an attempt to meet its original aims and with that in mind, a meeting has been arranged for Sunday 6th January 2002 at Manselton and Cwmbwrla Community Centre to commence at 11 am.

This meeting is open to all members and the board will be actively seeking to recruit members to a variety of sub committees, with a view to dealing with issues such as fund raising, social events, etc. Any member interested in becoming involved should either attend the meeting or contact any board member as soon as possible. We expect also to use the meeting as a forum for general discussion on Trust, supporter and club issues. Any member who wishes an item included on the agenda should contact us before the date mentioned.

Finally, we will be issuing a newsletter to all members in January 2002 and we hope to include articles on a variety of issues within it. Again, suggestions as to content would always be appreciated from members.

Clearly, matters within the club may alter dramatically at short notice and we would also wish to assure all supporters that the Trust continues to work toward ensuring the survival of Swansea City F C and to putting mechanisms in place to assist its survival.
