Neil Taylor is set to stay at Swansea and sign a new deal at the Liberty Stadium

It looked as if Taylor was all set to sign on at Newcastle United but manager Brendan Rodgers now believes that it is time for a new deal at the Liberty and that the left back will sign it and play for the Swans in the Premier League.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Rodgers said “We are still looking for four more players. We know what we’ve got here and that’s a talented squad who have done terrifically well.

“But we also know that a few more players of the right type can help us carry that on into the Premier League.

“It can be difficult to attract some players but that is no massive change for us; some Championship clubs have shown they can pay a lot more money than ourselves.

“There’s various levels in the Premier League in terms of salary and size of the club and, while we will pay good wages, if players want more money then they can go elsewhere.

“We want a certain type of player and we will attract them for footballing reasons and we will continue to work on that.

“There’s absolutely no question he will be a Swansea City player and he is very close to a new deal.

“There has been a lot of stuff written about Neil, but I have felt really sorry for him because he hasn’t said a word. Other people have been talking and it hasn’t looked good for him.

“We have had lots of conversations over the telephone because we were in various parts of the world over the course of the summer.

“But he always made it clear that this is where he wanted to be. Eventually we had a good face-to-face conversation last week.

“I said to him I think for a young player, Swansea is a fantastic place to develop. I want to work with senior but also young players and give them a chance. I think it was important for him to hear that.

“There’s no doubt Neil will go onto to be a very good player. He is important to us and will be for Wales also. He loves the club and he is signing to play"

The new deal for Taylor is also likely to signal the end of interest in Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand
