Wyndham Evans has offered up some hope for the Swans and doesn't believe that they are destined for an immediate return to the Championship

As ever many media pundits took Monday's defeat at Manchester City as the immediate viewpoint that the Swans are clearly set for a return to the Championship without actually paying any attention to the game itself just focusing purely on the scoreline.

But thankfully many have seen through this and Evans is one as he told the Evening Post "Everyone is saying Swansea are going to go down, but they are in the Premier League so supporters should just enjoy it and have some fun

"When we got into the First Division, everyone said it was going to be difficult, but we felt very confident.

"People forget that we were being tipped to go down as well.

"We didn't — we finished sixth and had a very good season.

"I was very pleased with the start — I thought Swansea were very strong," said Evans.

"And if Aguero hadn't come on I don't think it would have been 4-0.

"But it's only one result. I don't think many people really thought Swansea would go to Manchester City and get a win.

"There were definitely positives to come out of the match. The first half was good, the new goalkeeper impressed and so did Steven Caulker. He looks strong.

"People need to remember Swansea's away form wasn't great last year. They lost 11 times on the road.

"Saturday is going to be an entertaining game with two teams that play the game the same way," said Evans.

"I think Roberto should get a good reaction from the fans.

"If people look back, he did a remarkable job for the club.

"If he'd stayed, he could well have been the one that took Swansea up. We were all disappointed he left, but when the call came Roberto couldn't turn down the Premier League.

"I think now supporters can understand that. At the time it was disappointing, but in football things come down to money and ambition.

"Wigan only just stayed in the division last year. Had they gone down and Swansea come up, Roberto might have had egg on his face," added Evans.

"In a way I'd rather play someone else than Wigan first of all because it's a bit like Martinez v Rodgers.

"But they are not one of the stronger clubs in the division so it'll be a game Brendan is targeting.

"I'm expecting a great atmosphere, like there was for the match against Nottingham Forest.

"And if Swansea win maybe Roberto will think he should have stayed."
