According to reports on BBC Radio Leeds this lunchtime, Leeds have made a late bid to land Luke Murphy captain of Crewe who previously seemed destined for Wolves then Blackburn. Is this a bizarre publicity stunt, have Leeds suddenly discovered a spare million lying around or the fact that deadwood such as Paul Rachubka (pictured) will finally be off the books tomorrow has freed up some spare cash?

Adam Popes story does seem pretty inconceivable given that only 48 hours ago Leeds were losing face by agreeing to send Steve Morison on loan to Millwall to get him off the wage-bill, however Crewe boss Steve Davis confirmed they were looking at a THIRD bid for their skipper having already accepted offers of £1m from Blackburn and previously League One club Wolves.

Highly rated Murphy, 23, is the latest in a long line of starlets to roll off the Gresty Road production line, given Leeds are notoriously unwilling to comment on speculation we will know how true this rumour is when the player either ends up at Molyneux, Ewood Park or Elland Road when we have all been expecting Noel Hunt.
