Somma sorts himself out?
Somma sorts himself out?

Brian McDermott has admitted that he is unaware of the whereabouts of Davide Somma as be effectively confirmed the South African striker has left the club for good.

Somma's troublesome knee injuries have restricted him to just six appearances in two years and it seems an aeon since he burst onto the scene in 2010/11, scoring 12 goals many from the subs bench after a successful loan spell at Lincoln.

Somma's contract expired at the end of the season, although Leeds did not offer him a new deal he was offered a chance to train at Thorp Arch pre-season, however it appears to be an offer he has turned down.

Speaking in Slovenia late last night, Brian McDermott said: “I haven’t seen Davide at all so I think he’s sorting himself out.”

So it looks like Somma-time is all but over in Leeds although he has been desperately unlucky with injuries through no fault of his own, I don't really blame the club for taking this stance as with money tight we cannot sustain him on the wage bill. It would not surprise me if Simon Grayson, the man who brought him to England offered him a "pay-as-you-play" deal at Preston North End which I think any club in League One or Two would be worth having a punt on.

We wish him well and thank him for the goals, particularly those two against Millwall!
