Williams 'Flattered' By Arsenal Interest
Saturday, 17th Aug 2013 13:47

Ashley Williams is the focus of reported transfer interest from Arsenal although as we move closer to the closing of the transfer window it seems less and less likely that he will make the move away from the Liberty Stadium.

Michael Laudrup said a few weeks back that he would only sell players who wanted to leave and even then he would only sell them if he had time to bring in new players which he doesn't really have now with the window closing in just two weeks time.

Williams has long since been a reported target for both Arsenal and Liverpool although neither have really made a move for the Wales captain who has been an almost ever present since moving to South Wales from Stockport.

Williams has always attracted positive press for his performances particularly since promotion to the Premier League but he has never shown any desire to leave Swansea despite the reports

He told the Mirror “It’s all very flattering, but you take it with a pinch of salt because you see a lot written and you never know what to make of it

“I just take it as a compliment. You must be doing something right, whether it’s true or not. I try to leave it there.”

“All players with any kind of ambition want to see how high they can get, whether that’s with their team, which has been the case with me at Swansea, or whatever really.

“If I sat here and said I didn’t want to play in the Champions League, that’d be a lie. But at the same time, I’d never disrespect a team I play for and say ‘that’s it, I’m desperate to leave’ just after a story in the paper. I’d never do that or think that.

“As professionals, like you guys, you want to see how far you can go in your career and competing for titles is where everyone wants to be. However you get there and it’s a different story.”

We said on this site back before the end of last season that Ash would be here at the start of this season and today those words will come true when he leads the Swans out against Manchester United and we predict now that he will be here as well come the closing of the transfer window.
